WOMEN'S POST MAGAZINE will be hosting a Courage to Lead event on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 from 6-9 pm at Hank's Cafe (9 1/2 Church Street, in downtown Toronto).

The upcoming soiree, titled "Financial Fitness," will feature an expert panel offering tips on wealth management/planning.

Killing Women for "Honour"

What is an “honour killing”?

Aruna Papp, a brave Toronto-area social worker, offers a succinct definition in a recent paper, published by The Frontier Centre for Public Policy, a non-profit research organization.

“'Honour killing' is an ancient cultural practise in which men murder female relatives in the name of family 'honour' for forced or suspected sexual activity outside the marriage, even when the woman were victims of rape,” states the paper.

Turkey of the Week Award - for Rationalizing Vandalism

This week’s award goes to the Montreal-based group called the Anti-Capitalist Convergence, for pseudo-intellectual moralizing and trying to rationalize the actions of idiots.

The Convergence helped ship hundreds of radicals and anarchists to Toronto for the G20 Summit riots, which resulted in extensive property damage and three torched police cruisers.

After the naked protester was arrested, the riot police charged and we all had to run, even reporters like me ... we were on Queen Street and police were understandably on edge. About 100 feet from the spot where the demonstrator decided to strip, a car smouldered ... I couldn’t make out if it was a police cruiser, given how singed and blackened it was ... it was only later I discovered it was indeed a police car ... no mistaking the second vehicle almost directly opposite the smoking wreck, however.

Signs of G20 paranoia abound, even far away from the locked-down downtown “security zone” where the actual meetings will be held ... last night, walking to the subway, I saw workers slapping up plywood boards over windows ... windows belonging to businesses and office buildings outside the security zone ... once I got on the subway, seven beefy cops (six male, one female) boarded ... all wore baseball caps, with riot helmets clipped to their belts ...
