So, I see that Marc Emery's extradition to the United States for the 'crime' of selling marijuana seeds to US citizens is being opposed by a tri-partisan coalition comprised of Libby Davies, Ujjal Dosanjh, and Scott Reid:
"Three MPs -- Libby Davies of the NDP, Ujjal Dosanjh of the Liberals and Scott Reid of the Conservatives -- presented a petition signed by more than 12,000 Canadians asking Justice Minister Rob Nicholson not to sign extradition papers that would send Emery south to serve a five-year sentence for selling marijuana seeds online in 2005.
His removal order has been sitting on the justice minister's desk since Jan. 8."
Well, imagine that. The NDP, who have taken pains to distance themselves publicly from Marc Emery; the Conservatives, who make no bones of the fact that they want to keep pot illegal; and the Liberals, whose current leader doesn't show much more enthusiasm for the topic of legalization than the Conservatives do - although one of theirs, Keith Martin, seems fairly liberal ( pardon the pun ) on the subject.
That's some group of allies, there. I realize that individual members of each party are not necessarily bound to intellectual silence because of it - but really, come on. Am I the only one who has doubts?
Apparently:
""Nine weeks have passed and he hasn't made that decision, so something is keeping him from doing it," said Emery, widely known as "the Prince of Pot.""
I'll believe it when I see it.
