Tom Flanagan, conservative extraordinaire, gave a presentation on June 3 for the 2010 Congress of the Humanities and Sciences in Montreal.

The phrase “$1 billion dollar boondoggle” is being bandied around these days in relation to the G8/G20 security budget. Excuse me? What planet are Greg Weston and the others on?

Have you been following the MP expenses scandal? I know I have, if not particularly closely.

Well, I suppose it's not really a scandal. Not yet, anyway. The issue is that most of our elected federal politicians don't want to open up their books for a performance audit by Auditor-General Sheila Fraser.This doesn't constitute a scandal in and of itself.

Where are the progressives? Where are the feminists? Where are the activists?

In Canada, the Liberal and NDP opposition are worried that Taliban detainees/terrorists might have been roughed up a bit by Afghan authorities after they had been transferred to an Afghan prison. In fact, they worry so much, they hold hearings on the alleged abuses and demand the release of thousands of government documents. And, they make unsubstantiated allegations about war crimes committed by our troops.

Ah ... Maxime Bernier: the name brings to mind tales of chesty girlfriends and biker gangs, and even in an age of busty hookers and cocaine it manages to hold scandal currency.

But still, I admit to having a certain appreciation for the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and current Conservative MP for Beauce, Quebec. Right now, Bernier seems to be about the only conservative politician in this country who isn't toeing the Tory(TM) line.
