Why Are People So Afraid of a Conservative TV Network?

“Quebec billionaire Pierre Karl Péladeau is attempting a major shakeup of television news in Canada, with plans to launch a 24-hour cable channel modelled on the right-leaning U.S. network Fox News.”

I’ve decided not to get too excited about the prospect of a conservative news channel in Canada. It seems to me that there are as many pitfalls to the idea as there is potential. That said, it’s fascinating to see how scared leftists are by the mere mention of a conservative media outlet. Don Newman openly admits to acting like a prick to anyone who thinks it’s a good idea. NDP MP Pat Martin says the concept of a conservative TV channel is ’frightening.’ Liberal bloggers write like they’re in a panic. And that just scratches the surface of the hysterical response.

The question I have is, what are they so afraid of? Are they afraid that a conservative newscaster may actually convince people to be conservative? Are they scared to engage in a genuine debate ? Are they so insecure about their ideas that they want them to go unchallenged forever?

You can disagree with someone but that is no reason to exclude them from a debate. In fact that is even more reason to include them. The more diverse the perspectives, the healthier and more fruitful the debate.

So even if this new network takes a shape that I cannot support or approve of, I will still welcome it for adding to Canada's public dialogue.

Well, I for one can't wait to have a middle to the right TV Network. I'm so tired of those left wing loons of CTV and Global. Leftist propaganda just spews out of their programs like vomit. It will certainly be nice to hear ALL sides of the story, not just the propaganda of the left wing war machine.

I think the best response to anyone who doesn't like the idea of a conservative TV network in Canada is simply "well, don't watch it" ... this isn't North Korea where TV channels are literally welded to one station (run by the gov't, of course)
