A couple of days ago, Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke at a ceremony to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall, that symbol of communist tyranny.
And that makes me wonder why tomorrow, some Conservative MPs will be at another ceremony commemorating a man who fought for communist tyranny -- Norman Bethune.

...he was doing humanitarian work, and helped fight the Spanish Fascists and against invading Japanese Imperialists.
It is perfectly fitting that Harpo should celebrate the Fall of the Berlin Wall, and not only because it takes no imagination to do so.
The Fall of the Berlin Wall was, while an end to big-c Communism, actually a triumph for the social democratic welfare-warfare state of which Harpo is a leading exponent.
What is surprising is that the Tories would help commemorate a guy who fought against the Fascists. Harpo has at least one cabinet minister who said he would have supported the Fascists. He also runs a government that is actually MORE fascist in many respects than the Spanish Fascists themselves, whom Bethune helped fight.
But then, there is not a whole lot that the Harpo Tories do that is consistent or coherent.
listening to the radio last year i marvelled when i heard Harper talk to one crowd about non-interventionist free market ideals... he may as well have been an Austrian Schooler; then, on another occasion, he was stroking Keynes.
